Last night, I went for ICON ball. It truly was a fascinating moment for me. ICON was the first place I started off my sales/BD/accounts career. Prior to this, I was a trainer within the fashion space but after a short period of time, I got bored and thought I wanted to try something else. I remember interviewing for the role and the hiring manager back then asked me, “Are you sure you want to do sales? Do you know it’s actually a very tough job?” After so many years being in this space, I’ve come to understand why she’d say that. Sales and BD really isn’t a role for anyone and everyone. It requires a particular type of skill set, a particular type of tenacity and most importantly an unrelentless attitude that will not be upset with taking no as an answer. It is a full circle moment for me last night. Little reminders like these help me to stay grounded and planted on my two feet. I’m also thankful for friends and ex colleagues who so openly welcomed me. I’m excited for what is ahead. #thoughts #sales

Also, be mindful with the team members you are working with in your interviewing and onboarding process, you will more than likely cross paths again in the future. Oh and you should probably be ready to have a few "Targetisms" in your vocabulary.

2023.A year of grief, free-falling with no sense of when it would end, and a surprising career pivot. After I was laid off, it took me a long time to unravel my self-worth and personhood from my work. I was so entrenched in the culture and heartbeat of the organization that I wasn’t sure how to breathe without a sense of purpose. To get myself out of the house, I started two-stepping at local honky tonks here in Austin. What started as a hobby evolved into joining a rich community of dancers and music lovers and I finally felt like I was walking (or dancing) on solid ground again. After 5 months of job rejections and failing to get my consultancy off the ground, I decided to swallow my pride and get a part-time job at a western retail store I already shopped at. Surprisingly, I really enjoy the retail environment, interacting with customers directly, and feeling pride in merchandising. I’ve recently been promoted to a Keyholder at Cavender's because I’m viewing where I am as a career opportunity instead of a “job for now”. This mindset shift allowed me to stop feeling like I was failing or being left behind while my colleagues advanced in their career. This *is* an advancement, I *am* upskilling, and I’m good at my job!I’m not sure where I’ll be a year from now, but I know that while I may be making significantly less than I was before, I’m happy.—#retailjobs #retailmanager #careerpivot #layoff #careerdevelopment #socialmediamanagement #marketing #cavenders
