Affordable 5K monitor with 120 Hz, 500 nits and 99% DCI-P3: KTC unveils alternative to Apple Studio Display (2025)

The KTC H27P3 is a 5K monitor featuring a lower-resolution 120 Hz mode, great colour reproduction and a decent peak brightness of 500 nits – all at a competitive price. Its USB-C port makes it an excellent match for a Mac.

Launch Monitor

Since the launch of the Apple Studio Display (approx. $1,499 on Amazon), companies such as Dell, HP and LG have introduced monitors with the same resolution. However, these products were often only marginally cheaper and hardly any better than Apple’s monitor in terms of specs. Chinese monitor specialist KTC is aiming to deliver a more modern yet significantly less expensive alternative to the Studio Display.

The KTC H27P3 features a 27-inch IPS panel with a 5K resolution (5,120 x 2,880 pixels). One notable feature is that users can toggle between 5K resolution at 60 Hz, and 1080p resolution at 120 Hz, allowing for a decent gaming experience. According to KTC, the monitor can achieve a full-screen brightness of 500 nits and a contrast ratio of 2,000:1, which is remarkably high for an IPS panel.

The monitor’s colour reproduction also seems impressive on paper, with KTC claiming it can achieve 100% coverage of the sRGB gamut, and 99% of both the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces. The built-in USB-C port can supply up to 65 watts to a connected laptop and also offers USB hub functionality through two USB-A ports. HDMI and DisplayPort are also available as input options. The monitor is officially compatible with both Windows and macOS.

Price and availability

The KTC H27P3 5K monitor is available now in China for CN¥ 3,599 (approx. $495). Whilst the company hasn’t disclosed any details regarding an international launch, KTC monitors are typically introduced to other regions within several weeks of their Chinese debut.
